Chipmunks, a frog, a zebra, and at least one chicken joined hundreds of demonstrators along U.S. Route 101 in Florence on Saturday, October 18, 2025, as part of another national day of protests dubbed “No Kings.”
And as in the previous rally, the peaceful protest stretched from Florence City Hall to the Route 126 intersection. Signs ranged from the political wonky specifics of policy to the clever pun to the obscene as protestors raised issues of policy and behavior in President Trump’s administration and in the president himself.
The protest was held as the country entered a fourth week of a partial government shutdown. Some protestors spoke defiantly, others expressed their fear and anxiety. Kim Mckean switched his registration from Republican to Democrat in 2016, when Donald Trump announced he was running for president. “He’s ruining America,” Mckean said.
