The Western Lane District of the Oregon Department of Forestry, which includes western Lane County, has sent nine people to help with the East Evans Creek Fire northeast of Grants Pass, according to ODF’s John Deegan, a forest manager in the Western Lane District.
In addition, the Oregon State Fire Marshal has sent support from local fire departments on Oregon’s south coast (Coos, Curry, Douglas, and Lane counties): 14 firefighters, four engines, a water tender, and a command vehicle, according to an email Tuesday morning from OSFM’s John Hendricks.
The fire has spread to 5370 acres as of Tuesday morning, according to Deegan.
While conditions so far this spring and summer have been dry and warm, the number and size of fires have been relatively typical. “We’ve actually been pretty surprised that fires of this nature haven’t been more prevalent,” he said. “Knock on wood, so far,”
