“Holy Bubbles!” and More
The foam machine, bouncy rides, hot dogs, painted faces, fire trucks, police cars and more, were at Miller Park Tuesday night, courtesy of the Florence Police Department, as part of the National Night Out celebration held around the country on the first Tuesday of August each year.

“Holy Bubbles,” someone shouted as the foam cannon turned in their direction. While others simply called out “Bubbleman” to the young men manning the red bubble machine. A sea of white foam that would have made Mr. Clean proud covered everything within red bubble machine range.
It was National Night Out Tuesday at Miller Park in Florence. The foam cannon was one of the star attractions along with a collection of bouncy slides, bouncy rooms, and other bouncy attractions.
Hot dogs and hamburgers were served by the thousands, along with popcorn and other treats. All free. Paid for by the Florence Police Department and part of the national effort to build community and promote police-community partnerships, according to the organization’s website.
The national event began in 1984 and occurs on the first Tuesday in August in thousands of cities across the country, including about 60 communities in Oregon.
