With more votes still to count, election results in Florence and Dunes City began to take shape late Tuesday night.

Results released by the Lane County Elections office at 10 pm election night are unofficial and incomplete. More ballots will be counted on Wednesday, and mailed ballots can arrive as late as November 10, if they were postmarked by Election Day.

All to say we’ll have to wait until November 13 for the final votes to be counted, and until November 25 for the final official results, according to the county elections office website.

As of Election Day, Lane County has recorded 5,086 ballots for Florence, and 946 ballots for Dunes City.

FLORENCE

In Florence, Sally Wantz is ahead in the vote count for mayor, with just over 50% of the counted vote. Daniel Lofy has nearly 42% of the vote and Shannon Warren has nearly 8%.

In a Wednesday morning phone interview, Wantz said she was feeling confident about the numbers. She is looking beyond the election to serving as mayor and working with the four other council members. “The biggest takeaway for me is that most of us have the same set of wants for Florence. We all want the same thing; we’re just coming at it differently.”

For Warren, the night was a disappointment. She spoke Tuesday evening, just after learning that she is well behind in the vote.  “I’m disappointed in our world. I’m not a politician. I want the world to be different. I want the place that I chose as a home to be different,” she said.

Lofy had not returned a phone call as of early Wednesday morning.

The Florence City Council elections are divided into two groups. Four candidates are competing for two two-year positions, and four other candidates are competing for a full four-year term.

In those races, incumbent Jo Beaudreau and Terry Duman are the top-two vote-getters as of election night for the four-year position. Incumbent Mike Webb and Haylee Cole lead in the race for the two-year position.

DUNES CITY

In Dunes City, the incumbent mayor, Edward McGuire, trails Chris John by 8 votes as of Tuesday night.  Four candidates are competing for three city council seats. Lisa Walter-Sedlacek, Jeanne Jackson and Richard Olsen Jr. are the top three as of Wednesday night. Susan Snow trails Olson by nine votes.

The ballot measure in Dunes City to change the rules on short-term rentals looks like it will be defeated. As of Wednesday night, the No votes led 456-374.
