How the Election Results Page Works
Discover the latest breakthroughs, ethical considerations, and societal implications as we navigate this exciting journey…
I built the Election 2026 Live Results page to provide easy, one-stop-shopping for the top-line results for our local elections as well as the key Oregon State and federal elections.
The page will update throughout election night, and over at least the next week as totals are updated. The results come from a few different sources:
LOCAL AND COUNTY RESULTS: I will enter the results manually as numbers are posted by the Lane County Election Board. I will update the link to the results page when it goes live on Election Day, and you can check or double-check local results there.
STATE HOUSE DISTRICT 9 RESULTS: I will enter the results manually as they are posted by the State. District 9 includes parts of other counties, so complete results are provided by the state. You can click on the link to check or double-check the results of this race.
FEDERAL RACES AND THE OREGON GOVERNOR’S RACE: For these races, I am using what is called an API to automatically pull in results from the site CivicAPI.org
An API is a software tool for connecting to other software. It allows me set up my page to pull in the voting totals from all the different federal races, and our governor’s race, automatically. CivicAPI will be updating results as quickly as they can, and that information will show up on my site automatically.
My disclaimer about this: The Associated Press is the gold standard for election results. They have been providing results since 1848. My preference would be to use their results but to use their API, and get their results automatically, would cost West of the Tunnel $6500. An amount I cannot afford.
CivicAPI is free.
I will be checking CivicAPI agains the AP results throughout election night and beyond. If I find a significant discrepancy, I will manually adjust the totals using the AP’s results. If CivicAPI calls an important race before the AP, I will use the AP to call the race.
My goal is to provide the most accurate results as quickly as possible. If you see an error, please contact me at will.yurman@gmail so I can fix the mistake.
