The class of 2038 worries about first grade, while the class of 2026 looks ahead with a mix of nerves and excitement for life after high school.
A policeman and doctor, of course. But also two paleontologists, an ODOT worker, engineer, physical therapist and Spiderman are the stuff of dreams for Siuslaw School District kindergartners and high school seniors.
“What do you want to do or be when you grow up?” Six-year-old Layne Lemhouse was calm, cool and collected.
“Probably just don’t do any work and just stay home.”
For the seniors, the answers were more complex. Get a good job, raise a family, change the world, find fame, be the person other people count on. Be happy.

This is so well done! And I truly enjoyed hearing what the students had to say.
I love that, Will! It’s so great to hear from the kids.
Thank you for bring a different perspective to our attention.
Well done, Will. I worry for these kids. I worry for the seniors and their next four years and what comes after. I certainly worry for the six-year-old and what life we’re going to leave for them. I hope Mr. Goodman finds happiness. My intuition says he’s had a lot of grief. I hope he hangs in there.
Great job Will! Thanks for giving the students a voice! So much innocence and wisdom.
Impressive loving caring members of the Florence community.
The purity of them is beautiful.
