School Board Elections ’25

By In News

Six candidates are running for three seats on the Siuslaw School Board.

The May 20, 2025, special district election includes three races for the Siuslaw School Board.

Six candidates are paired off to run for the three seats. West of the Tunnel invited all the candidates to sit down for interviews. Interviews with Maureen Miltenberger, Adrian Pollut, and Tom Posegate can be found below.

John Barnett did not respond to multiple emails and phone calls. Dennis King is out of state until May 8 and was unavailable for a phone interview due to poor cell service. Maygan Hiatt originally agreed to be interviewed, but then said her workload was too heavy.

School boards set the policy that guides the schools. And schools matter. Parents and children have a vested interest in the performance and culture of their schools.

The rest of the community, our community, also has important reasons for strong schools.

We want children to succeed and thrive, of course. The school district is a large employer in our community. And good schools attract and keep the people who keep our community running, such as waiters, grocery store employees, plumbers, and healthcare workers.

Ballots are mailed to all registered voters. Completed ballots must be mailed with a valid postmark by Election Day. Ballots may also be placed in an authorized drop box, and in-person voting is possible in Eugene.

Many thanks to the candidates who made themselves available for interview. Shows a lot about what they feel is important. Also says a lot about the 3 other candidates who couldn’t be bothered, apparently.
